Trastevere Restaurant: The Roman Dining Experience

One of the most characteristic restaurants in Trastevere is l’Antica Pesa, a 17th century building where the customs office of the Papal State was located, in Via Garibaldi. The office received the taxes for grain, and the customs officer decided to establish a refreshment station, which would provide bread and wine for the many peasants who came to the office. The curious name Antica Pesa was given at the end of the 19th Century, when it's original function of a customs office was superseded by it's present life as an inn. The menu features typical Roman cuisine, high quality products and a touch of contemporary fusion cuisine. Maybe it's the dough, made from a secret blend of flours that's reputed to be easier to digest than the competition. The menu features mostly Roman cuisine’s all time favorites such as spaghetti Cacio e Pepe, fried zucchini flowers and only on Thursday the typically Roman gnocchi with tomato or gorgonzola sauce. One of the most famous Trastevere restaurants is Il Galeone, a cosy, warm, refined place in this historical neighbourhood. On the first floor, decorated like an old galleon, you can enjoy seafood specialities in a suggestive atmosphere.
