Are you curious to know what the district of Testaccio offers in terms of culinary specialties? Would you like to go to eat out with your friends in one of the many good restaurants the district has to offer, and then go to dance all night long in one of the nearby clubs on Testaccio's disco row, but you don’t know exactly where to go? Testaccio offers many restaurants and nightclubs the strong point of which is the combination Restaurant-Disco, which has become a real trend in Rome recently. Sounds strange, but it is worth a try.
Testaccio Restaurants: Checchino
Based in the heart of the Roman quarter of Testaccio, the restaurant "Checchino since 1887" is a temple of Roman gastronomy. Its cellar is very original because it is completely inside the Monte Testaccio and for this reason its kept naturally cool, guaranteeing an excellent place to store quality wines. Its menu is inspired by the before standing slaughterhouse and by a poor gastronomy based on chitterlings. The restaurateurs found a way to make a type of meat that was low-priced but difficult to cook because of a strong taste due to the great concentration of blood attractive, actually. There is a great variety of original dishes: “stufatino con il sellero” (stew with celery) for instance, whose recipe has been modified by “Sora Ferminia” who used the tail and the cheeks of the animal. We also suggest to test other dishes such as “rigatoni con la pajata”, “trippa” together with “bue garofolato”, an ancient rustic specialty offered by Checchino.
Via di Monte Testaccio, 30
Closed on Sunday and Monday.
Open 12:30-15:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. to Midnight daily
Testaccio Restaurants: Ve l'avevo detto Sotto
Two dining rooms with a total capacity of 55 people, a wide and cozy terrace, and a spacious courtyard at the entrance. Velavevodetto is aTestaccio restaurant that offers in its menu the typical and sought after traditional Roman cuisine, Coda alla Vaccinara, Bucatini all’Amatriciana but also good pizza (we suggest the pizza with gorgonzola cheese). The environment is “rustic” with stonewalls, stained glass windows, and well set tables. In the restaurant you can breathe a familiar atmosphere and be at ease thanks to the waiters’ kindness. Open every day in the week at lunch and dinner, at midnight you can profit by dancing in the disco SottoSotto, obtained in the space underlying the restaurant. SottoSotto reveals to be a fantastic extension of entertainment, a disco bar, a cocktail and music pub, a narrow space that proposes a great musical offer for very special moments. The most quiet nights are perfect for a patter in company with your friends or your partner, instead in the most crazy nights (on Friday or on Saturday) you can dance at the rhythm of Black, electro, house or R and B music.

Testaccio Restaurants: Sin
A very “warm” rustic restaurant that enhances the ancient Roman walls, it is divided in a dining room and a ballroom. The dining room of Sin contains 60 places in a cozy and refined space where you can taste one of the best pizzas in Rome. You should test the extravagant invention of the chef, a crossing between a pizza and a calzone. You may also taste great meat, prepared according classic Roman recipes or have a choice among exclusive and original dishes. The ballroom is organized in a wide indoor and heated terrace, where after midnight there are fantastic DJ's set up until the first light of day. You can sip particular cocktails prepared by the barman who is rumoured to be the best in Testaccio. The restaurant is convenient, in particular the pizza menu which costs 20 euros for full dining and the admission to the disco.

Rambla was born in the place of an old tannery, in the centre of Testaccio, it is a simple restaurant that allows to enjoy the ancient Roman charm. It is a pizzeria and a salad restaurant, open six days a week (we suggest to book) from 20 to 24, where you can have tasty dishes in a wide dining room. From 24 to 00.05 when the Rambla closes, you can pass to the room next to the Class. It is a disco, open 5 days a week, where a great number of cinema, television and fashion stars have danced in its ballroom, for example Vanessa Hassler, Elisabetta Gregoraci, Danny Mendez and a lot of others. In company with the fizzy energy of the Dj’s set you can range from commercial music to revival or house music, Friday is appointed to greatest hits of the Seventies and Eighties and Sunday to Black music.
