Christmas is about to arrive and many people - maybe the ones who are more provident! - are already thinking about gifts to give, filling a list of ideas and possible gifts to buy. The Christmas atmosphere is joyful and merry and shopping in Rome markets can be exciting and funny, as you could grab some good offers or something that you could have found nowhere. So, here's a list of the most important Christmas markets in Rome.
A different Christmas, with original ornaments, typical dishes and stunning gifts? It is not so difficult! Rome in fact can offer a large choice of markets and original places where to go for some Christmas shopping. Rome at Christmas time becomes even more beautiful, with its Christmas illuminations, the sound of bagpipes in the air and Santas and street artists playing and singing down the streets. Many Rome Christmas markets became real events to follow for the ones who love to look around in stands or for the ones who have to choose Christmas gifts for relatives and friends.
Rome Christmas Markets - Piazza Navona
Among Rome Christmas Markets, one of the most important and famous is the one of Piazza Navona, that makes the square dip into a magical and old atmosphere , rich in sounds, colours and traditional tastes. The undoubt star is la Befana, an old witch who brings children toys and sweets (but only to good children!) at Epiphany. La Befana is represented by a witch, but there is a lot of other ways she is represented: with strange hats, more or less ugly, even sexy...but always carrying a wooden sweep that will sweep all bad things away. Stands are full of sweets, toys, Christmas trees, candyfloss and hot donuts...the Befana's donuts of Piazza Navona.
Rome Christmas Markets - Mercatino di Natale di Roma col cuore
Another Rome Christmas Markets is the one called Natale di Roma col cuore, born in Rome but with a typical northern atmosphere, thank to its chalets. In one of the most known squares of Rome you will surely make up your mind about gifts for your relatives and friends among almost 150 stands dedicated to...almost everything. Enogastronomy, handicraft, antiques, fashion and so on. There will also be draws and games for kids and artists playing music and painting.
Rome Christmas Markets - Outskirts
In the nearby of Rome you can find nice Christmas markets too. For example, in Bellegra, a city that dedicates one day a week in the month of Dicember an exhibition of handicraft, bijoux and ideas for your gifts.
Another market that is worth visiting is the one of Fiano Romano, with handicrafts products, furnishing and many other things. If you want to get more info, just click on the section "eventi" (events) and then on the one dedicated to Christmas celebrations.
