Visit Rome in 7 Days: Third day

As your visit to Rome in 7 days progresses, we suggest that you start your third day from the heart of the old city, Piazza Navona and Campo de' Fiori, two sights that should be visited and re-visited as you are exploring the city. But your third day in Rome mustn't and can't end here (you're reaching the halfway point of yopur Roman hoiday), so let's see what else the Eternal City will unveil to you during the third day.

Rome in 7 Days: Starting from Campo de' Fiori
If you happen to be staying in one of the hotels near Piazza Navona, you can start again your walk from this famous piazza right after breakfast, or from Campo de' Fiori,  which is a smaller square, famous for its early morning produce market and its bakeries. The wonderful smell of pizza and cakes will surely lead you there. Next Campo de' Fiori, take a look at Piazza Farnese, the Square famous for the embassy of France, housed in a palace built by Antonio da Sangallo and Michelangelo Buonarroti for the bishop Alessandro Farnese.

But your attention today will be caught by the visit to one of the most famous chapels of the world, maybe the most famous: we are talking about the Sistine Chapel. If you want to rest before the trip to St. Peter's Basilica and the Vatican Museums, Piazza Navona and Campo de' Fiori are both great places to take in te atmosphere early in the day. From here you must reach Corso Vittorio Emanuele, and at the bus stop called Chiesa Nuova take the bus number 40, which will cross the Tiber River and stop right in front of Castel Sant'Angelo.
It was built in the 2nd century as a tomb for the Emperor Hadrian and went on as an imperial mausoleum until the time of Caracalla: in the 14th century it became the papal fortress we can see today.

Ten minutes walk from Castel Sant'Angelo and you will be in the biggest Square in Rome, and the most famous for religious believers in the world for it is the place where the Pope addresses the masses from his window.

Rome in 7 Days: Finishin Up at St. Peter's
St. Peter's Basilica is really full of attractions. Your eyes will be attracted by Michelangelo's exquisite Pieta', in the nave on the right, or the sculpture of Pope Clement XIII, or the bronze of St. Peter himself.

You cannot leave Rome without a visit to the Vatican Museums, which houses one of the biggest art collections in the world. Inside the museums you will be able to see the art masterpieces collected and commissioned over the centuries by the Popes. You will surely be enamoured when you look up and set your eyes on the Sistine Chapel, painted by Michelangelo, and by the Papal rooms frescoed by Raffaello. It takes a long time to visit the museum's entire collection, so we suggest that you try to skip things that will be of less interest to you.

Among your choices are the Pinacoteca (painting gallery), the Egyptian Gregorian Museum, or the Pio-Clementino Museum. Last but not the least, don’t miss watching the sunset from the Dome of St. Peter's. It is quite tiring to tackle the over 300 steps on the spiral staircase that circles the dome, but the view will compensate you for your efforts.
