The Olympic Stadium in Rome is a part of the gigantic Foro Italico sports center which is equipped for everything from swimming events, to tennis, to football. It is considered one of the most important stadiums in Italy, and the most important hands down in Rome due to its large capacity. It can hold up to about 81,903 people. In the Olympic Stadium Rome there are not only football matches, but also other events such as athletic competitions, and concerts.
Olympic Stadium Rome: Some Information About It The Rome Olympic Stadium was built in 1952 for the Olympic games that took place in Rome in 1960, and it was overhauled in 1989 for the football world championship that was organized in Italy in 1990. In the beginning, in 1928, the Rome Olympic Stadium was called the "cypress stadium" and it was a small stadium with a capacity of 35,000 people that was used for football matches, but also for fascist manifestations with Benito Mussolini. In 1950 works started to change the stadium into the Olympic Stadium, which was finished in 1960 for the Olympic Games. The big cover was added in 1989 for the football world championship.
Olympic Stadium Rome: Home to Football
The Olympic Stadium is also the home stadium for both Roman football teams, A.S. Roma and S.S. Lazio, which alternate use of the stadium for their home and away matches. Despite knowing how to share the stadium at least, there is a bitter rivalry between the two teams, so much so that the hardest core of each team's supporters refuses to occupy the same seats as the other team's. Therefore the stadium is divided into the Northern Curve (Curva Nord) for the Lazio supporters, and the Southern Curve (Curva Sud) for the Roma supporters. The stadium also hosted the 2009 Champion's League Final.
Olympic Stadium Rome: Concerts
For information on concerts and tickets you can check out the site Biglietti Stadio Olimpico, but your Italian will have to be pretty good to get the tickets you want. Finding English language intermediaries is not easy for concert tickets, but you could also try through local agencies, or your hotel's concierge service.
