In order to do business in Rome, you should be aware of the latest news from the city and from Italy. Your main concern will be of course business related news, but being informed about the current political society news can be an advantage in business: it can give you a topic for a conversation and give you a precious insight in how Italians and Romans think and what is currently on their mind.

The main Italian newspapers and TV stations have well designed Internet sites, so you can be informed of the latest Italian news even before coming to Rome. Many have an English section, not as complete as the main, Italian section, but good enough to give you a proper information about the current news in Italy.

Il Sole 24 Ore is the main business and economy newspaper in Italy. Every business man reads it every morning. Although a creation of Confindustria, the Italian union of Industry managers and owners, Il Sole, as everybody calls it, tends to be a fairly balanced newspaper. It’s main topics are, of course, business and economy related, but it also covers political news and reports the most important national and international news. If you plan to do business in Rome, your main source of business, economic, law news will be Il Sole 24 Ore.

Il Corriere della Sera is one of the main Italian newspaper, and it has an extensive English section at http://www.corriere.it/english. It’s closer to the left political side, but it tries to be independent and balanced. It’s an all round newspaper, covering every kind of news, from political to economical, from foreign news to Italian and International gossip. Given its all round coverage and mostly acceptable fairness toward all political sides, and given its good English language section, Il Corriere della Sera, also called “Corriere” (not to be confused with the popular sport newspaper "Il COrreire dello Sport") or “Corsera” can be a good second choice in your reading in order to have a fairly complete view of the latest news in Italy. Il Corriere della Sera has a good number of local editions, including Rome, but on the online version gives quite a good space to news from Milan, where the seat of the newspaper is.

La Repubblica is another good source of quick news. It’s another major newspaper, covering all kind of national and international news, like the Corriere della Sera. The left positions of the newspaper are more pronounced and it’s one of the most critical voices against the current Berlusconi government. La Repubblica tends to give more space to science and technology news and has a fairly complete news coverage on the latest Italian and international gossip, glamour women pictures, and a good selection of local news.

If you are staying on Rome and want to focus on news about Rome, your best bet will be the local newspapers, Il Messaggero and Il Tempo. Both newspaper covers national and international news, but they give ampler space to Rome news.

Il Giornale and Il Foglio are a bit like Il Corriere della Sera and La Repubblica, but they cover news from a right side point of view and are strong supporters of the current right wing government.

RAI is Italy’s public television company. It has three TV channels, called RAI 1, RAI 2, RAI 3, radio channels, DDT and satellite channels. RAI offers every kind of information and entertainment. After every major newscast there’s an economic and business newscast. Business and economic news are also covered during the main editions. RAI 3 broadcasts regional newscast. Every afternoon and evening RAI 3 has a newscast dedicated to the latest news in Rome and Lazio – if you are in the Lazio region, of course. RAI also has international channels broadcasting also in English. From RAI’s site is possible to watch the newscasts and other TV programs in streaming.

The most known private answer to public television is the Berlusconi owned Mediaset network, composed by Canale 5, Italia 1, Rete 4, plus DDT and satellite channels.

A third player is the privately held La 7.

All broadcasters have newscasts, political and economical talk shows and journalist enquiries shows.
