Italian driving licence: how to achieve
If you are to achieve your driving licence for the first time you can attend a driving school or home school. In the latter case you should submit to the local Bureau of Motor Vehicles:
- declaration of postal current account payments,
- two passport photos, doctor’s note plus health mark and photo,
- non EC citizens: residence permit visa.
The exam consists of written and road tests.
If you have already the class A driving licence and want to achieve the class B you will not repeat the written test.

Italian driving licence: how to renew
If your driving licence is going to expire you can turn to medical centres of the highway code, usually ASL structures, to have the doctor’s note which certifies the suitability to drive. If the examine is positive the structure will inform the Department of Transport and send home an adhesive coupon to affix on your driving licence. If you are abroad for more than six months you can renew your driving licence by doctors of Italian embassies or consolates.

Italian driving licence: change of address
If you have changed your address you have to update your driving licence filling a form distributed by the town hall which informs The General and Central Office of the Department of Transport.

Italian driving licence: damaged driving licence
If your driving licence is damaged you may ask for a duplicate. A driving licence is considered damaged when you can’t read: its number code, personal data, due date, photo. When you retire it you have to return the old document.

Italian driving licence: stolen or lost
If lost or stolen, your driving licence can be replaced. First of all you have to report to the police. The central office may issue the duplicate otherwise you should address to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

Italian driving licence: classification
If you want to chose another driving class you may ask for classification. Classification can be ordered by offices when the driver has lost driving requirements for a class but keep the requirements for the inferior class – for example age.

Italian driving licence: suspended driving licence
When a driving licence is suspended the driving licence is not valid for a time. The suspension can be ordered as administrative sanction after violation of highway code or after temporary loss of physical and mental requirements. The driving licence revision consists of tests.

Italian driving licence: repeal
Repeal is common when the driver has lost mental and physical requirements permanently or when after revision he is no more suitable for driving or when he has not replaced his driving licence with a new one abroad.
