Events in Rome: The Olympic Stadium
The Olympic Stadium is the most important and famous stadium in Rome. It is inside the sports complex called Foro Italico, sesigned and built during Fascism in order to recall an Imperial Forum, pthe stadium as it can be seen today was built for the 1960 Olympics and refurbished and enlarged for the 1990 World Cup. It is in the Monte Mario area and it is mainly dedicated to soccer and track and fields events: however, for its dimension it has been used for years for concerts and other big events. In the Olympic stadium played Miles Davis, Tina Turner , Vasco Rossi, U2 , R.E.M. and Madonna.
Events in Rome: The PalaLottomatica
The PalaLottomatica was formerly known as PalaEur, from the name of the area where it is located, the EUR district. Lottomatica is the name of the sponsor which financied its modernization works. This indoor sports arena is dedicated to basketball and to concerts, thanks to its impeccable sound system. Works concerned the external aspect too, since now it shows numbers as if in a lottery drawing. Lottomatica is in fact the company that runs the national lottery, called Lotto. The Palalottomatica houses conventions and theatre events, too.
Events in Rome: Auditorium Parco della Musica
Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome was designed by the famous italian architect Renzo Piano, the author of the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris and the New York Times skyscraper, too. The Auditorium is the site of the greatest events in Rome and everybody knows it, both italians and foreigners. Every day the Auditorium is crowded by every kind of person imaginable, both young and old, adults and families. It is not just a site for concerts, but also for conventions, the Rome Cinema festival and fashion shows.
Events in Rome: The Palaghiaccio
The Palaghiaccio just south of Rome is a modern and large ice-skating rink that can host up to 7,300 people. A lot of events take place there, from concerts to cabaret, theatre and dance. In the Palaghiaccio many important artists have performed, like Frank Sinatra, Barry White, Stevie Wonder, Simply Red, Santana, Peter Gabriel, Deep Purple, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Van Halen, and many others. It has been chosen many times as a location since it isn't too far away from the center and it can host a very large audience.
