Civitavecchia Port: Useful Info
Sponsored links
Civitavecchia Port is located just 80 kilometers north of Rome. If you will be traveling to Sardinia or another Mediterranean destination from the Rome area, than you will most likely be departing from the Civitavecchia port. Rome-Explorer.com has gathered the useful information you need in terms of getting there and back and what you can find in the vicinity.
The port of Civitavecchia is the most important commercial and passenger port in the Rome area, and one of the most important ports in Italy since it is near Rome and Leonardo Da Vinci International Airport in Fiumicino. Every year more ferries are leaving from Civitavecchia port, and there are many companies offering different services to, from and in its massive structure. One of the latest ones is Costa Crociere which chooses the Civitavecchia port as a starting point and stop-over for its cruises. Moby is another ferry line that offers services to Sardinia, Corsica and Elba. The ships are enormous and you can even pack your car if you want.
Civitavecchia Port: How to Arrive
Thanks to the G.R.A., the ring shaped motorway that encircles Rome, it is quite easy to reach the port of Civitavecchia from the Rome city center. The Civitavecchia railway station is also conveniently near the port's departure platform. If you will be arriving there by car, Europcar car rental can rent you a car with the possibility of taking it from Rome and leaving it in their Civitavecchia agency just a few meters from the port and vice-versa. You may also want to rent a car if you will be visiting Sardinia, taking it directly from Rome onto the ship and over to the island to explore.
The Avis rental company has an agency too just 300 meters from the port and 500 meters from the railway station, and lets you choose among lots of different kinds of cars.
A bus shuttle service is guaranteed to groups of 6 to 14 people by romashuttlelimusine. Prices include luggage transport and are quite attractive especially if the group of people is numerous.
Civitavecchia Port: In the Vicinity
If you are at the port and you have some spare time, there are a lot of bars in the port area where you can have a drink before your departure. There are also some shops and a mall too. But the most visited sight in the town of Civitavecchia is the fort (which looks much more like a castle) designed by Michelangelo which dominates what has always been a strategic harbor.
Just a stone’s throw from the port there is the restaurant La Scaletta where you can eat pizza or fish with a view. If you need accommodations, the Hotel Traghetto is just a few minutes from the port and not too far from the railway station. The hotel has a garage and you can book a room from its website. If you prefer a residence instead, there is the Miramare, offering small apartments all year round. It is at a few meters from the port and, among room options, 12 suites are available for its guests.
Bon voyage!
