Ciampino Bus: how to get to Rome’s low cost airport
Sponsored links
Fiumicino, Rome’s major airport, is quite easy to get by train, there is a shuttle train from Termini station roughly every half an hour and another slower one stopping at almost every Rome train station. But reaching Ciampino airport, is far more difficult, the best option, especially for a tourist, is the bus. Ciampino bus normally leaves from Termini station and stops right in front of the airport entrance. Rome-explorer.com has devoted an article to Ciampino bus and to the companies offering a Ciampino airport bus service.
Ciampino is Rome’s second airport and it has acquired an increasing importance in the last few years due to the fact that it has been mostly consecrated to budget and low cost airlines, particularly Ryanair and EasyJet. The second Rome’s airport is located to the south-east of Rome city centre. There is no direct train service to the passenger terminals, so you must, at least initially leave the airport by vehicle. The dominant public transport connection are the low cost Ciampino airport bus services: Terravision and SIT. These two Ciampino bus service companies, both run a shuttle service to Termini Station in the city centre and for the first time visitor this is the simplest option to take. A lot of Roman people utilise public Ciampino bus service Cotral that connects to Rome's Metro system and also the local suburban rail system that runs into Termini Station from Ciampino station, not on the airport. There are of course taxi/private hire options both from the taxi rank outside or booked in advance cars with driver. There are two competing direct Ciampino airport bus services to central Rome, Termini Station, the main public transport hub. At the moment Terravision service seems to be much more popular than the rival SIT bus and to be promoted more heavily by the airlines that fly into Ciampino. The two Ciampino bus services, both run the same route, stopping next to each other at the eastern main entrance to Termini Station and run very similar buses. Terravision run a shuttle service broadly every 30 minutes from Termini station, get there at least 3 hours before your flight is due to take off. The airport departures are co-ordinated with flight arrivals, in order to find Ciampino bus stop, exiting customs, turn left and go through the doors outside. Bear left and there is a coach stand on your left. There will probably be other passengers waiting and a Terravision rep. A direct competitor to Terravision is the SIT Ciampino bus, offering exactly the same route. Like Terravision, the SIT bus operates from the bus stand outside arrivals at Ciampino and at the eastern main exit of Termini Station in the centre of Rome. Frequencies are slightly less than Terravision, check departure times on the site. You can purchase tickets for this Ciampino bus service online or directly on the bus.Leave a comment on this page
