Beer is a well-known product throughout the world. In spite of the industrial scale production of beer, there is a countertrend that involves some market niches in the production of traditional beers made according to old recipes which can be sipped in the small breweries where they are produced.
In Rome you will be able to sample both massproduced beers, as well as handmade, draft, or bottled beers. We have chosen some breweries where you may taste the most famous beers and others where you may find handmade beers.
Brewery Rome: Antica Birreria Peroni
You can take in a typical Italian atmosphere at Antica Birreria Peroni, the historic brewery just off of Via del Corso and Piazza Venezia, where you may sip cold Peroni beers, as well as some others. Among Peroni beers there is “Peroni Gran Riserva”, which in 1999 was defined the most aristocratic Italian beer, prepared with double ale, a lager characterized by a full taste and marked by aromatic hop essences and barley of the cherie variety. Instead among more unique beers there is “Crystall Red”, a red beer characterized by a bitter aftertaste and a delicate fragrance.
Brewery Rome: Senza Fondo
If you would like to dip into a cozy atmosphere and sip a good Belgian beer to forget about daily stress or rest after a long walk around ROme, there is Senza Fondo, located near Saint Peter’s where you may also attend live jazz concerts. There is a wide range of Belgian beers, such as “Belgian Ale” which has a predominant aroma, marked by the presence of phenols, with a flouvoring of hop, a changing colour which varies from golden to auburn, a moderate transparency, a good foam retention, fruity and spicy aroma, or you may chose “Wietbier” which has a honey aroma with a predominant grapefruits character, a characteristic herbaceous and spicy aroma which is often combined with phenols and low hop; its colour varies from pale yellow to light golden, foam retention is very good and it is creamy.
Brewery Rome – Birra Turbacci
If you are fond of natural, simple beer, characterized by flavours and natural ingredients, high quality hop, you should test Birra Turbacci. You can taste birra Turbacci in the “Brew Pub”, a cosy and quiet brewery, placed in Mentana where you may chose among the different proposals of its gastronomic menu.
Brewery Rome: BoaBirra
If you like German beer, marked by a herbaceous and bitter aroma or the amber double ale at low fermentation with a roast malt or nuts flavour or the beer where dried chestnuts are added to lager which make it full-bodied, perfumed and almost smoked, the ideal place is BoaBirra. This beer can be sipped at BoaBirra, on the Roman coast, in Via dei Ravennati. Moreover, you can dine and attend to live musical events ranging from Blues to Soul, Funkie to Jazz.
