The Bioparco, Rome's zoo, is an environmental educational center which promotes the preservation of different animal species. It is made up of 18 hectares, or nearly 45 acres, of educational paths, open plays, pic-nic areas, and rest points with plenty of animals to be seen along the way. Rome-Explorer.com has put together Bioparco Rome, a complete description of the Rome zoo with all relevant information such as opening times, the park's history, and much, much more.

Bioparco Rome: General Info on the Rome Zoo
The Bioparco Rome was first opened in 1911, and it is considered one of the best zoos in Italy. The Bioparco Rome has the goal of teaching people how to respect the animal world and how very important it is to maintain the right order and equilibrium between humankind and nature. More than 200 animal species live in the Bioparco Rome: mammals, birds, reptiles, and a lot of plant species. Many of these animals have been found in houses where they have been raised in captivity. The Bioparco Rome is much more than the old-style zoo in which animals are kept as a collection, rather it is based on the idea that education and respect for nature can be given to the people through events, exhibitions, educational paths for children and students, and that the preservatio of animal species arrives through creating and fostering people's interest.
